Italo Pesce Delfino – Professor of Cinematography

Born in Rome, Italo earned a degree in sociology at the Cattedra di Antropologia Culturale dell’Università “La Sapienza” di Roma, with a thesis in digital cinema, a degree in Film and TV Cinematography at the Centro di Formazione Professionale della Regione Lazio, and took further courses at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Roma.   In 1985 he founded, with four partners, the audiovisual facility BOX 4, where he served as director of photography and videographer and developed his identity as an “autore di immagini”. An early supporter of video cinematography he specialized in Chroma‐Key, digital effects, art, theater and dance videos (and a 10-year collaboration with Giorgio Barberio Corsetti producing video in his plays).

In 1997 Italo was DP on the feature comedy L’amico di Wang (directed by Carl Haber for Lucky Red and Rossellini & Associates). In 1998 he was the cinematographer on Due volte nella Vita (directed by Emanuela Giordano for Sidecar and Intelfilm), one of the first films shot in Digi‐Beta to be released in movie theaters. Since 1999 he is a member of the A.I.C., distinguished as an expert in new digital technologies and the developments in film language. He worked as director on three specials for RAI: Multirifrazione Aiace, Miraggi del Cuore, and Volare sul Vulcano, was the DP for Incantesimo 3 and Finché c’è Ditta c’è speranza; in 2001 he was cinematographer on Blek Giek, a feature directed by Enrico Caria for Cattleya. Italo is considered an expert in Italy in the field of High Definition. Shooting with the Sony HD Cam Cine Alta he made the short film Bobbolone (Winner of the Festival di Trevignano 2002, the Premio RAI Fiction and the Premio per il migliore Attore Protagonista); with the Panasonic DVC ProHD Varicam he directed and shot the short Red Pause for theatrical release with Sidecar Films and Cydonia. From 2003 he was director and DP for the fashion house Le Tartarughe and 2004‐2006 he directed 6 episodes of RAI‐TRE’s La Squadra”. In 2007/9 he directed episodes of “Incantesimo 9”, “Incantesimo 10” for RAI‐UNO and “Agrodolce” for RAI‐TRE. He is a jury member for the Davide di Donatello Awards and contributed video for Sabina Guzzanti’s show “Un due tre, stella” for La7.
