Larry Jackson – Film Distributor/Producer

Larry began his movie career in 1971 as Managing Director of the Orson Welles Cinema. Responsible for its general management, programming, promotion and advertising, he developed the Welles into the first 3-screen art multiplex. He began filmmaking as a production manager for director Orson Welles with whom he worked on several projects for both stage and screen. Jackson’s own first production, begun at the Welles, was BUGS BUNNY SUPERSTAR, the first feature length Looney Tunes movie. For its release, he formed Hare-Raising Films and led its successful marketing through 4,100 theatrical dates.

Moving to LA in 1979, Jackson guided marketing for films outside the typical Hollywood formula, such as Hal Ashby’s BEING THERE and Richard Rush’s THE STUNTMAN. In 1980, Robert Redford invited him to join in the creation of The Sundance Institute, where he organized programs and selected and tutored participant filmmakers, as well as assisting in fund-raising efforts for several years.

Larry later served as head of acquisitions, marketing and production for the Samuel Goldwyn Company, responsible for production or distribution of independent films, such as STRANGER THAN PARADISE and MYSTIC PIZZA. As VP In Charge Of Production at Orion Pictures, he acquired, developed and packaged film projects including SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, later joining Miramax Films as Executive VP of Worldwide Acquisitions and Co-Productions.

Today Larry is preparing four independent features for production, and through his consulting arm, Persistence Of Vision, he advises filmmakers, investors, private organizations worldwide on marketing, distribution, production and new business models. He is completing a memoir, THE ADVENTURES OF AN EAGLE SCOUT IN HOLLYWOOD.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching, both from Cornell University.
