Marta Zani – Professor of Production Design

Since 1987 Marta has worked as an Art Director and Production Designer in film, TV, Web series, Theater, Exhibitions and Advertising, with a specialty centered around the research and design of many diverse historical periods.

She has worked internationally as a Production Designer on Italian productions as well as co-productions with France, the US, Poland, Germany, South Africa, Chile and others. She has worked overseas and as Art Director on service productions shooting in Italy, frequently in French and English languages, including with collaborators such as Francois Seguin, Richard Cunin, Tony Egry, Francois Chavaud, and Tim Pannen.

Among the many directors she has worked with are Josée Dayan , Alicia Scherson , Alain Jessua , Patrick Volson , Sergio Sollima , Diane Kuris , Jerome Levy, JeanClaude Lauzon, José M.Sanchez, Carlo Lizzani, Marco Simon Puccioni, Alessandro Capone, Franco Angeli, Antonio Falduto, Aldo Lado, Francesco Costa, Marco Mattolini, Ilaria Borrelli, Elisa Bolognini, Vito Vinci, Gabriele Jacovone, Felice Farina and Luca Manfredi, on films such as Le Comte de Montecristo, L’Uomo che Rubo la Gioconda, Il Pulpito, Stato d’Assedi, Il Caso Dozier, La Vera Storia di Luisa Bonfanti, Léolo, Berlino 39, E-Bola, Il Futuro, Il Console Italiano, L’Amour Caché, Quello che Cerchi, Rent Husband, Les Coleurs du Diable, and Wine and Kisses.

Marta has also worked a Set Dresser on numerous films, served as PD on many short films and commercials, and designed sets and costumes for theatrical works, including Compagni di Banco, La scatola azzurra, Perché il fuoco non muore, Marina e l’altro, Risate sul patibolo, Parlez–moi d’Amour and Quartullo’s Plays.

From 2005 to 2008 she was the scientific co-director and instructor in Art Direction for three masters programs “Architettura tra Cinema e Video” for INARCH.

From 2011-14 Marta taught courses in Art Direction and the History of Style at the Scuola D’Arte Cinematografica Gianmaria Volontè in Rome. Since 2013 she taught Art Direction, Costuming and Set Design at the Università Unint Di Roma through the Master TEA program. She has collaborated with the 2015 Corso sulla ideazione ed organizzazione di Festival; in 2016 she taught.

She is currently teaching courses in History of Style and Design and Period Costumes, and writing a book, “CINEARCHITECTURES: Urban space in Cinema. Themes and Visions From a Documentary.”
