Paolo Zeccara – Visual Effects Supervisor

Born in Rome in 1953, after earning his degrees from the Liceo Artistico and the Accademia Belle Arti di Roma he began working – from 1978 through 1985 – in the Optical Effects Department at Cinecittà.

Originally engaged in the construction and filming of miniatures, he expanded his expertise into the entire gamut of “Optical Effects” at the time.   In 1986 he founded ZED Special Imagery, together with Alessandro Danielli, a company dedicated to the “Visual Effects” that merged traditional chemical film based effects with the new video technologies, as the manipulation of imagery came to be done increasingly electronically. ZED produced visual effects for commercials, videos, photography and television programming, including title sequences, and special effects costuming.

In 1991 he began collaborating with director Carlo Carlei, in what was the first experiment with HD TV Chroma‐Key on the film “Capitan Cosmo”; also with Carlei from ‘93 to ‘95 he worked in Los Angeles on the film “Fluke” serving as Visual Effects Supervisor for MGM. It was the first feature film that made use of computer graphics. With the advent of the use of the computer in manipulating imagery for film, he evolved into a specialist in “Digital Effects”. He returned to Italy and joined forces with the company PROXIMA, where from 1996 to 2011 they grew to became the number one Italian company in the field of visual and digital effects, using all the latest techniques in computer graphics.

Since 2011 he has worked freelance with a number of companies and studios, as a creator of Digital Effects, including a recent major motion picture with director of photography Vittorio Storaro. He is a member of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano. His complete credits list can be found on the IMDB.
