We are proud to announce the opening of the most exciting new, hands-on, practical film school in Europe: The Rome International Film School.

RIFS (https://www.romefilmschool.org/) offers students from around the world the opportunity to learn the art, craft and business of film, television and new media, through a finely structured mix of courses teaching classic professional standards and the ever changing innovations, with a major focus on project creation and completion, giving students a three dimensional, complete, practical education in the field.

Rome has a long, storied history in cinema, and is known worldwide for its beauty, culture and charms. RIFS is the choice for many who seek high level, modern, practical film education in one of the finest international contexts.

RIFS is unique in Europe, merging American film education techniques with European cultural and international sensibilities. We aim to see RIFS named among the top, prestigious international film schools, attracting the most talented film students to Rome, and contribute to the revitalization of the Italian film panorama. It is the only school of its kind in Europe south of Paris.

RIFS’ priority is stimulating creativity and teaching true technical proficiency to students, through well-designed, proven courses in the fundamentals of filmmaking – directing, screenwriting, acting, cinematography, sound, production design, post-production, animation, visual effects and more – as well as intensive prioritizing on the making of films. We will turn out professionals, ready to step into the world of filmmaking internationally, each with his or her artistic and professional vision.

The RIFS faculty (https://www.romefilmschool.org/our-faculty/) is composed of award winning directors, screenwriters, producers and film technicians, recognized domestically in their countries, and internationally. RIFS will also boast a steady stream of international guests: writers, directors, actors, producers, art directors, editors, distributors, and other professionals from all corners of the globe, ready to share their experiences with master classes, seminars, screenings, Q&A’s and the like. The school has nurtured relationships with active film production and distribution companies, ready to offer internships and practical professional experience to our students as well. RIFS has a growing Advisory Board (https://www.romefilmschool.org/advisory-board/) composed of select and important figures in the world of international film, on hand to offer advice, help monitor the school’s evolution and continue to assure the highest level of teaching and film production.

RIFS is opening its doors in the center of Rome for the Fall 2016 term, with a special twelve-week crash course in filmmaking for twelve select students (https://www.romefilmschool.org/fall-2016/). Each will receive four weeks of intensive courses in direction, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, sound design, production design, directing actors and film production, then engage for four weeks of production and four weeks of post-production, working with the latest professional gear and the mentorship of the faculty to each make their own individual films as well as work on the films of their fellow students in diverse roles.

In January ‘17, RIFS will offer one-week intensive workshops in Screenwriting, iPhone filmmaking and 3-D animation techniques.

In the Spring 2017 term, RIFS will offer the second of its special twelve-week courses in filmmaking for twelve new international students, following the program of the fall term.

In May 2017, additional one-week workshops and master-classes will be offered for local and international students in exciting, hands-on subjects.

The first 4-week summer workshop will take place in June 2017, where students receive two weeks of classes, a week for production and a week for post-production, and another twelve films will be made by international students.

Beginning in fall 2017, RIFS will launch its one-year program with a larger student body and growing faculty. The fall semester will give students comprehensive training in all major disciplines of filmmaking, with options for two or three elective courses, and each student will produce two film exercises and two original short films. In the spring semester students can specialize in the aspect of filmmaking that interests them the most, with advanced courses, while also engaging in weekly workshops and making two original films. During the course of the year, students will ultimately make four films of their own and have the chance to work on dozens of fellow students’ films, while being trained by professionals in the field and with the opportunity to work with the latest in equipment in one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in the world.

In the fall 2018 term, RIFS will launch its unique second year program for ten select students, who will collaborate with the faculty to write, direct, produce and complete a feature film. Each year, as a consequence, RIFS will turn out many dozens of quality short films and a feature film aimed at the international marketplace.

With competitive tuition fees, a practical program, the latest equipment, award winning instructors and mentors, liaisons and relationship with film industry professionals and service providers, in a major European capital of charm and energy, and with student films destined for festivals and distribution, RIFS is aiming to soon be ranked among the world’s prestigious filmmaking programs.
